Cable wakeboarding in Abu Dhabi happens at Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Khalifa City, near Abu Dhabi Golf Club, and it is taking bookings in October 2026. An hour on the cable costs AED 137 including VAT, about US$37. The cable runs on weekdays from 14:00 to 23:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 22:00, and it is a 104 km drive from Dubai Marina.

Key takeaways

Al Forsan's three cable lines: the Straight Cable, the Small Cable and the Big Lake

Al Forsan is a 1.6 km² sports resort in Khalifa City that has been open since 2010, by its own account. Wakeboarding shares the grounds with a karting circuit, shooting ranges, padel courts and equestrian arenas. The resort calls itself "the UAE's only wake park with a 4.0 cable system". It does not publish the length of any of its cables.

What it does publish is how the water is split. When the resort launched its Wakeboard Academy in May 2025, the Abu Dhabi Media Office release named three levels and the line each one rides: "Beginner (Straight Cable), Semi-Pro (Small Cable), and Pro (Big Lake)". The Pro course covers "air tricks, kickers, sliders", the Semi-Pro "cable control, surface tricks, and small obstacles". The booking system names a “Small Lake” and a “Straight Lake” too.

Abu Dhabi's tourism authority describes "a huge overhead cable erected around the banks of the purpose-built 'pro' and 'beginner' lakes", running "between 29 to 38kph (depending on the level of experience)". In 2011, when Al Forsan hosted the WWA Wake Park World Championships, the World Wake Association described two freshwater lakes with "clockwise and counterclockwise full cable systems" plus a "two-tower unit". That lines up with the three lines in use today.

Al Forsan wakeboarding prices in AED, as of October 2026

The resort's website runs on a booking platform, and the prices below are what that system charged for wakeboarding on 14 October 2026. Each one includes 5% VAT.

Al Forsan wakeboarding ticketPricePer hour
Ride, 1 hourAED 137AED 137
Ride, 2 hoursAED 220AED 110
Ride, 4 hoursAED 378AED 94.50
Add-on: grind board rental, 1 / 2 / 4 hoursAED 37 / 48 / 58
Add-on: towel rentalAED 10.50
Wakeboard Academy Level 1 & 2, term to 31 December 2026from AED 3,500
Wakeboard Academy Level 3 & 4, term to 31 December 2026from AED 4,500

The dirham is fixed to the US dollar at 3.6725, so the hour is about US$37, or roughly €33 at the European Central Bank's dollar rate for 13 October 2026. That puts it above the 1,000 THB hour at Phuket Wake Park (about €27) and a little under Singapore Wake Park's S$55 coached beginner hour (about €37). Buy the four-hour ticket if you can stay up already: each hour then costs AED 94.50.

The price is the same at 15:00 and at 21:00, and the same on a Saturday. The system lists identical rides for the afternoon and evening blocks and no weekend surcharge.

What the Al Forsan wakeboarding ticket covers, and the board you may need to rent

The booking system does not itemise what comes with the ride. It sells one board as an extra: a "Grind Board", described as "Rental Board", at AED 37 for an hour, 48 for two and 58 for four. No vest or helmet is sold as an add-on.

Abu Dhabi's tourism authority says cable prices at Al Forsan "typically include equipment rental, access to the cable park and safety gear". "Typically" is not a promise. Message the resort on WhatsApp (+971 50 700 8609) before you go and ask whether a standard board, vest and helmet come with the ticket. If you plan to ride the Big Lake features, budget the AED 37 or bring your own board; our wakeboarding gear guide explains what a park board does differently.

One rule is printed. The resort FAQ sets the minimum age for wakeboarding at 8 and adds: "Participants must be able to swim." It also asks for "activity-appropriate sportswear" and says pregnant women are not permitted on certain activities.

First time wakeboarding in Abu Dhabi: the Straight Cable and the academy

Start on the Straight Cable. The academy puts every beginner there, and its Level 1 is designed "for first-time riders to build fundamental wakeboarding skills and water confidence". Abu Dhabi's tourism authority notes that many cable providers, Al Forsan among them, offer beginner packages with an instructor. The online booking system sells rides only, so ask about a coached first hour when you book.

The academy itself is for staying riders. In October 2026 its Level 1 and 2 term runs from 25 August to 31 December, with two-hour sessions from 17:00 to 19:00, priced from AED 3,500. Levels 3 and 4 start at AED 4,500. The 2025 launch release aimed it at "young talent aged seven to 17", with up to 24 students per level and a certificate or showcase at the end.

Adults learning alone should arrive knowing the stance and the deep-water start. Our beginner's guide to wakeboarding walks through both. Let go of the handle when you fall; fighting a cable that pulls at close to 30 km/h only adds a second crash to the first.

Al Forsan wakeboarding hours: weekday afternoons, weekends from 10:00

The resort FAQ lists wakeboarding on weekdays from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM and at weekends from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The booking calendar agrees. For Friday 16 October 2026 it opened at 14:00 and closed at 23:00, and for Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October it opened at 10:00 and closed at 22:00. Rides are sold in one-hour slots, up to four hours.

The website itself carries a banner: "Website is still under construction and booking services are partially activated." If the online booking stalls, use the Al Forsan Leisure app, the WhatsApp number above, or the resort line, 02-6565656.

Wakeboarding in Abu Dhabi's summer: what the NCM's 43°C means for a session

An afternoon-to-midnight timetable fits this climate. The UAE's National Center of Meteorology keeps monthly means for its Zayed International Airport station, about 11 km from the resort, for 1982 to 2025.

Zayed International Airport, NCM means 1982–2025Mean daily highMean daily low
January24.4°C13.6°C
March29.7°C17.4°C
May39.4°C24.5°C
July42.5°C29.6°C
August43.0°C30.1°C
September40.8°C27.3°C
October36.5°C23.6°C
November31.1°C19.5°C
December26.4°C15.6°C

Summer nights barely cool. An August low averages 30°C, and the station's hottest July reading on record is 49.3°C. In the first week of August 2026 the NCM's Abu Dhabi bulletin forecast highs of 46 to 47°C with lows of 33 to 36°C. Between June and September, book the last slots of the evening, drink before you ride, and keep sessions short.

November to March is the comfortable season, with mean highs between 24 and 31°C. October 2026 may run warm: the NCM's seasonal outlook, issued on 1 October, expects "above normal temperature conditions with nearly 1.0°C ~ 2.0°C" this month. Al Forsan's site gives no water temperature for its freshwater lakes. For the sea around Dubai, our Dubai diving guide has the Gulf's summer and winter surface temperatures.

Getting to Al Forsan from Abu Dhabi city, Yas Island and Dubai

The resort gives its address as Street No. 12, near Abu Dhabi Golf Club, in Khalifa City, and says it is 10 minutes from the airport and ADNEC. The distances below are measured with the OSRM routing engine on OpenStreetMap data, to the map point the resort's own booking site uses. The times assume free-flowing traffic.

Anyone searching for wakeboarding on Yas Island will find boats there rather than a cable. Abu Dhabi's tourism authority lists Yas Island with the Corniche, Al Bateen, Al Maya and Sir Bani Yas as places for "high-speed boat towing". Khalifa City is close enough to Yas that a cable session fits after a working day.

Cable park or boat: wakeboarding in Dubai compared with Al Forsan

The wakeboarding Dubai sells is on the sea. Visit Dubai's own booking site lists a "20-minute Wakeboarding Experience at Palm Jumeirah", from the Fairmont The Palm hotel, from AED 450, with a minimum age of seven. That is more than three times the price of an Al Forsan hour for a third of the time. Per minute on the water, the cable comes out about ten times cheaper.

A boat has its place. It gives you a real wake, open water and a coach in the boat for every second you ride. A cable gives you repetition: dozens of starts and turns in an hour, which is what a learner needs. For a Dubai-based rider the practical plan is a weekend day trip to Khalifa City, a four-hour ticket, and the drive home after dark.

Staying in Abu Dhabi to wakeboard: the UAE remote work visa

For a longer stay, the UAE's Remote Work Visa is the residence route built for people employed abroad. Abu Dhabi's economic development department lists it with a duration of "1 years" and two criteria: "You work remotely for an entity outside of the UAE" and "You earn a monthly income of no less than USD 3,500 or its equivalent in other currencies". That is about AED 12,850.

Applicants need proof of employment outside the UAE and "a bank statement for the last 6 months proving a deposit or a monthly income of no less than USD 3,500". Applications go through the federal identity and citizenship authority, ICP. The Abu Dhabi Residents Office adds that nominations for this category are "currently unavailable" through its own channel, so apply on icp.gov.ae rather than through ADRO. Check the ICP page for fees and current rules before you count on it.

Who should skip Al Forsan as a base: anyone who wants to ride before work. Weekday sessions do not start until 14:00, and there is no monthly pass to lower the hourly rate.
