How we chose
Mantas are reliable in specific places for specific reasons: a cleaning station they return to, or a plankton bloom they feed in. We selected for that mechanism rather than for one-off sightings, and we say which of the two applies, because it changes the season and the odds. No operator can promise mantas, and any that does is telling you something about itself.

FAQ
Where can I reliably dive with manta rays?
Nusa Penida's Manta Point has mantas year-round and is a short boat from Bali. Komodo (Karang Makassar) and the Similans (Koh Bon) are reliable in the dry season, and the Maldives, Raja Ampat and Tofo offer bigger, more remote encounters. Sightings are never guaranteed, but these sites are the most dependable we cover.
Do I need to be a diver to see mantas?
Not always: at some sites, like Nusa Penida's Manta Point and parts of the Maldives, mantas cruise shallow enough to snorkel with. Many cleaning stations are dive sites, though, so a diving certification opens up more. Either way, watch from below, stay still and never touch or chase them.
