Nazaré Watersports Schools: What They Say About Themselves

12 schools teaching surfing. Nothing here was checked by a third party. Every field is what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated. This page was not built from a register, which makes it a weaker page than our dive lists, and it is labelled that way throughout.

12 schools read on 2026-08-19 · 0 name a training body · 0 languages named in total. Read this differently from our dive pages: those list every operator a register carries and show who was assessed in person. This one lists every school RNAAT carries here, 0 of them, plus schools we found ourselves, and nobody assessed any of them. Being in one of those directories means the body says the school is affiliated. It is not an inspection.

Every business the Portuguese state licenses to run board sports in the concelho of Nazaré, read on 19 August 2026. All 12 carry an RNAAT number, the licence a business must hold to trade in these activities, which Portuguese law requires it to print in its own material, so the number here can be checked against the school. 9 of them publish a website in the register. Absence means something on this page. A business missing from it is one the register does not license for these activities in this concelho, which is a fact about the business rather than about the completeness of a list. What the licence never says is which sport. Surf, bodyboard, windsurf, kitesurf, skim and stand up paddle are a single item in it, held by 1,299 businesses across Portugal, so the state licenses board sports and says nothing about which of them a school teaches. Nothing here was read on the operators' own sites yet, so this page carries no training body, no languages and no quotes, and nobody assessed any of them.

How to read this list, and why it is weaker than our dive pages

On a dive page, Green Fins means a named third party visited the business and scored it. Nothing on this page is like that. Every value here is a claim the school publishes about itself, which we opened on the date shown and quoted rather than summarised.

What absence means here. On a dive page, absence means the operator is not in the register. Here it means we did not find the school, which is a statement about us and not about them.

An equipment brand is not a training body. Several schools show Duotone, Cabrinha, Naish or North prominently. Those are gear sponsorships and certify nothing, so they are not recorded as affiliations, and a school that names only a brand shows a blank here.

A named body is still only a claim. None of these schools publishes a membership number, so there is nothing to take to IKO or VDWS and check. If you care, ask the school for its number and ask the body to confirm it.

Why no register stands behind this page. We have tried eighteen governing bodies and state registers, from IKO and VDWS to PADI, SSI, and the tourism authorities of five countries. Four can be read in bulk and none of the four covers these places. The full account, body by body, with what each one actually returned, is on why no register stands behind these pages.

Corrections and removals

If you run one of these schools and a field is wrong, write to us with the page that shows it and we will correct it and date the correction. We do not charge for a listing, for its position, or for its removal, and if that ever changes it will be declared here and on the disclosure page before the first paid listing appears.

  2. How this list was assembled. The RNAAT register alone, downloaded whole in one request from the Portuguese tourism open data portal, 13,152 establishments, filtered to the concelho of Nazaré and to the licence items covering board sports. No operator website has been read yet. No aggregator, booking portal or review was used as a source.
