How to read this list, and what a register entry does not tell you

This page carries 33 schools. 33 are confirmed against the register. Read 2026-09-01.

Every one of them is here because the SSI register lists it, and each entry links to the record it was read from. Nobody assessed any of them. Being in a register is not an inspection. Nothing on this page was read on the schools' own sites, so it carries no quotes and no languages.

Every watersports business in and around Mactan that SSI publishes in its own register of affiliated centres, read on 1 September 2026. 33 in total: 33 by SSI. Each entry links to the register page it was read from, so the affiliation can be checked at the source rather than taken from here. 25 publish a website in the register. Two of the 33 are boats rather than shops: SSI lists Philippines Aggressor and Philippines Aggressor II with a town and an address exactly as it lists a dive centre, both under Lapu-Lapu City. They are kept, because a liveaboard registered here is a business operating from here, and they are named because the register does not distinguish them and a reader cannot tell from a row. One of the two shows how little the coordinates are worth on their own: the register places Philippines Aggressor 21,437 km from Mactan, and it is on this page only because its city field names Lapu-Lapu City. Absence means nothing on this page, and that is the important sentence on it. These are membership registers, not licences: a school that is not in them may simply not have joined, or may teach under a body that publishes no list at all. So this page is what these bodies list here and never the schools of Mactan. What a listing proves is narrow. It says the body registers this business, on the date given. It says nothing about the teaching, the equipment, the boats or whether the school is open this season, and none of these businesses was assessed by anybody for this page. Nothing here was read on the operators' own sites yet, so this page carries no training body beyond the register's own, no languages and no quotes.

On a dive page, Green Fins means a named third party visited the business and scored it. Nothing on this page is like that. What is here instead is a register entry: a body publishing the business in its own list, which settles that it is listed and nothing else about it.

What absence means here. A business missing from this page is one the SSI register lists nowhere in this place. That is a statement about a list and not about a school: it may never have joined, or may teach under a body that publishes no list at all.

A register entry can be opened; a claim cannot. Every affiliation taken from a register links to that body's own page for that business, so the listing can be read at the source instead of taken from here.

Why these registers and not others. A register earns its place here by being enumerable and citable: it has to list who is in it, and each entry has to have a page that names the business, so a reader can check the claim instead of taking it from us. Most do neither. Green Fins is the case that shows the difference, because its members are the best evidence in this directory and its member pages render the same bytes for a real centre and an invented one, so a Green Fins fact is stored with a centre id and never cited as a link. Twenty-five were tried and nine answer: what each one returned, with the date it was asked.

  1. Each school's own website, opened on 2026-09-01. Every quoted sentence was read on the page linked in that school's row, not in a search result and not on a booking portal. Among them 50bar.modoo.at, allblue-cebu.com, bigbossdive.com.
  2. How this list was assembled. The ssi training centre register, 3,868 centres worldwide fetched in one request and filtered to this place. A record is kept when the register's own city field names this place or its coordinates fall within 20 km of it, because each half fails alone: coordinates tied an Indonesian business to an Egyptian registration 10,000 km away, and city strings alone would have dropped a centre whose register coordinates sit 780 km out to sea. Green Fins is not among the sources here: its member pages render nothing a reader or a checker could confirm, and a citation has to point at the fact it cites. No operator website has been read for this page.
