About NOMADREEF and Yannick Schroth
Why NOMADREEF exists
Most travel sites are written for holidays, and most gear sites are written for people who never leave home. NOMADREEF sits in the gap I actually lived in: working remotely while organising life around the water. The question this site answers is the one I kept asking myself, and rarely found a straight answer to: where can I base for a month and get good water time, with workable wifi, a fair cost of living, and cover that actually pays if something goes wrong?
Who writes it
My name is Yannick Schroth. I spent years as a digital nomad before settling, and I have lived and worked across Thailand, Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Paraguay. I hold a Bachelor's in International Business and a Master's in Global Studies, and I founded and run online businesses that let me work from anywhere. That is the experience I bring to NOMADREEF: not a dive-industry CV, but real time living the location-independent life these guides are for.
In the water I dive, surf, paddle whitewater and wakeboard. I hold a PADI Advanced Open Water certification. I have logged dive time in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Colombia; surfed in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Peru and Colombia; and run whitewater in Switzerland, Colombia, Thailand and India. That is where my first-hand water experience is strongest, and where it isn't, I tell you.
I am honest about the limits of that. Where I have first-hand experience of a place, a piece of gear or a service, I say so. Where I am working from research, verified-buyer reviews, expert consensus or official sources, I say that too, and I show you where the numbers came from. I will never pretend to have dived a reef I haven't, or tested a product I haven't. That honesty is the whole point of an author page, so you can judge the source.
How NOMADREEF makes money
NOMADREEF is reader-supported. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy or book through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we would use ourselves, and we rank on fit for a nomad who spends time in the water, never on which programme pays the most. The full details are on our affiliate disclosure page, and how we research and test is on our editorial standards page.
What we cover
- Destinations, the bases where the diving and the download speed both hold up.
- Nomad logistics, the recurring stuff: insurance, eSIMs, banking and visas.
- Gear, kit that survives salt water and airline holds.
- Skills & safety, how to dive, paddle and surf smarter and stay safe offshore.
