How to read this list, and what each kind of source is worth

This page carries 25 schools. 25 are in the register and 25 name a training body. Read 2026-09-23.

25 are in the IKO and VDWS registers, which are third parties saying the business is listed and nothing more. Everything else is what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated. Nobody assessed any of them.

Every school IKO or VDWS publishes on Lake Garda, read on 23 September 2026: 25 of them, 24 in the VDWS station register, 2 in IKO's centre directory, one of them in both. Where those businesses sit is worth saying plainly, because the lake is 50 km long: all 25 are in the northern half, between Riva del Garda, Tignale and Limone on the west shore and Torbole, Malcesine and Brenzone on the east. The southern half holds exactly one entry in the registers this page reads, and it is a dive centre, which is not what this page carries. 20 of the 25 publish a website in the register, and one of those addresses did not answer when it was read; where the register carries no address for a school, its entry is all there is. Absence means nothing on this page. These are membership registers, not licences: a school that is not in them may simply not have joined, or may teach under a body that publishes no list at all. IKO's own site claims more than 350 affiliated schools against the 301 its feed carried when it was read, which is the size of that gap. What a listing proves is narrow. It says the body registers this business, on the date given. It says nothing about the teaching, the equipment, the boats or whether the school is open this season, and nobody was assessed for the purpose of this page.

On a dive page, Green Fins means a named third party visited the business and scored it. Nothing on this page is like that. What is here is a register entry for 25 of them, and for the rest what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated.

What absence means here. Every business here is in one of these registers, so absence means the register does not carry the business, which is a statement about a list.

An equipment brand is not a training body. Several schools show Duotone, Cabrinha, Naish or North prominently. Those are gear sponsorships and certify nothing, so they are not recorded as affiliations, and a school that names only a brand shows a blank here.

A register entry can be opened; a claim cannot. Every affiliation taken from a register links to that body's own page for that business, so the listing can be read at the source instead of taken from here. Where a school's own words are shown instead, they are a claim with nothing behind them but the school, and they are labelled that way.

Why these registers and not others. A register earns its place here by being enumerable and citable: it has to list who is in it, and each entry has to have a page that names the business, so a reader can check the claim instead of taking it from us. Most do neither. Green Fins is the case that shows the difference, because its members are the best evidence in this directory and its member pages render the same bytes for a real centre and an invented one, so a Green Fins fact is stored with a centre id and never cited as a link. Twenty-five were tried and nine answer: what each one returned, with the date it was asked.

  1. Each school's own website, opened between 2026-08-24 and 2026-09-23. Every quoted sentence was read on the page linked in that school's row, not in a search result and not on a booking portal. Among them supingarda.it, avidkiteboarding.de, beekite.it.
  2. How this list was assembled. Two kinds of source, kept apart. IKO lists 306 affiliated centres in 64 countries; VDWS lists 427 stations in 26 countries, enumerated in one request from the endpoint behind the map, which is how a school's affiliation reaches registry evidence. Then the school's own website for everything the directory does not carry, quoted and dated. No aggregator, booking portal or review was used as a source. All three registers were re-read whole on 2026-09-01 and these are their sizes on that date; a register is a moving list and this sentence carries the date so it cannot go quietly out of date.
