Kalpitiya Watersports Schools: What They Say About Themselves
7 schools teaching kitesurfing. Nothing here was checked by a third party. Every field is what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated, because for these sports there is no register anyone can read. That makes this a weaker page than our dive lists, and it is labelled that way throughout.
7 schools read on 2026-08-14 · 6 name a training body · 5 languages named in total. Read this differently from our dive pages: those list every operator a register carries and show who was assessed in person. This one lists schools we found ourselves, and nobody assessed any of them.
Six of the seven name IKO, the highest rate of any kite destination here. The schools are spread along the peninsula rather than in one village, so the town beside each name is the one the school gives itself: Kappalady, Kandakuliya, Kudawa and Sethawadi are all within the Kalpitiya area.

- The site returns a name and a location and nothing else we could read. A search summary calls it the only IKO certified school run by local kite surfers; that sentence is not on the site, so it is not recorded.

How to read this list, and why it is weaker than our dive pages
On a dive page, Green Fins means a named third party visited the business and scored it. Nothing on this page is like that. Every value here is a claim the school publishes about itself, which we opened on the date shown and quoted rather than summarised.
Why there is no register. We checked six, and all six failed. VDWS serves exactly one server-rendered listing page, for one sport in one country, and returns 404 for every other combination. The IKO school finder loads 168 KB of page containing no school links at all, and its per-school pages return an Android WebView error instead of a school. Portugal's FPS sends its school list to escolasdesurf.pt, which did not resolve in DNS on 14 August 2026. Portugal's state register of tourism operators, the RNAAT, is an application that returns no records to anything but a real browser. France's FFS publishes its schools as an empty map container. Brazil's ABK, which accredits schools and issues instructor cards, serves 46 characters of text to a real browser, and its former domain no longer resolves. Two of those six are run by governments, so this is not simply an industry that declines to be listed. None can be enumerated, so no honest list of "every kite school in Tarifa" can be built the way the dive lists are.
What absence means here. On a dive page, absence means the operator is not in the register. Here it means we did not find the school, which is a statement about us and not about them.
An equipment brand is not a training body. Several schools show Duotone, Cabrinha, Naish or North prominently. Those are gear sponsorships and certify nothing, so they are not recorded as affiliations, and a school that names only a brand shows a blank here.
A named body is still only a claim. None of these schools publishes a membership number, so there is nothing to take to IKO or VDWS and check. If you care, ask the school for its number and ask the body to confirm it.
Corrections and removals
If you run one of these schools and a field is wrong, write to us with the page that shows it and we will correct it and date the correction. We do not charge for a listing, for its position, or for its removal, and if that ever changes it will be declared here and on the disclosure page before the first paid listing appears.
