How to read this list, and what each kind of source is worth

This page carries 42 schools. 39 are in the register and 5 name a training body. Read 2026-08-19.

39 are in the RNAAT register, which is a third party saying the business is listed and nothing more. Everything else is what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated. Nobody assessed any of them.

Every business the Portuguese state licenses to run board sports or diving in the freguesia of Ericeira, read on 19 August 2026, plus the schools found outside those lists before the register was reachable. 39 of the 42 carry an RNAAT number, the licence a business must hold to trade in these activities, and the register that issues it is public, so any number here can be looked up in that source. Absence means less here than on the Peniche page, and the reason is a boundary rather than a gap in the source. Ericeira is one freguesia inside the concelho of Mafra, and the register is kept by concelho, so a school licensed a few kilometres up the coast is licensed by the same authority and is not on this page. Within Ericeira itself, a business missing from the list is one the register does not license for these activities. What the licence never says is which sport. Surf, bodyboard, windsurf, kitesurf, skim and stand up paddle are a single item in it, held by 1,300 businesses across Portugal, so the state licenses board sports and says nothing about which of them a school teaches. Every sport shown here is the school's own word, and nobody assessed any of them.

On a dive page, Green Fins means a named third party visited the business and scored it. Nothing on this page is like that. What is here is a register entry for 39 of them, and for the rest what the school states on its own site, quoted and dated.

What absence means here. For the 39 taken from the register, absence means the register does not carry the business, which is a statement about a list. For the other 3 it means the school is not in these registers, which says nothing about the school.

An equipment brand is not a training body. Several schools show Duotone, Cabrinha, Naish or North prominently. Those are gear sponsorships and certify nothing, so they are not recorded as affiliations, and a school that names only a brand shows a blank here.

A register entry can be opened; a claim cannot. Every affiliation taken from a register links to that body's own page for that business, so the listing can be read at the source instead of taken from here. Where a school's own words are shown instead, they are a claim with nothing behind them but the school, and they are labelled that way.

Why these registers and not others. A register earns its place here by being enumerable and citable: it has to list who is in it, and each entry has to have a page that names the business, so a reader can check the claim instead of taking it from us. Most do neither. Green Fins is the case that shows the difference, because its members are the best evidence in this directory and its member pages render the same bytes for a real centre and an invented one, so a Green Fins fact is stored with a centre id and never cited as a link. Twenty-five were tried and nine answer: what each one returned, with the date it was asked.
