How we chose
One rule decides this list: the visa must be open and accepting applications, not announced, not passed into law, not "launching soon". That single test removes places we would otherwise recommend, the Philippines most notably, whose nomad visa exists on paper but has no working application channel. Income thresholds vary enormously, so the ranking here is by usability, not by how attractive the country is.

In 2026, operational nomad or remote-work visas cover Spain (Tenerife), Portugal (Ericeira), Croatia (Split), Greece (Paros), Malta (Gozo), Slovenia (Bovec), Italy, Indonesia (Canggu, via the E33G KITAS), Sri Lanka, Costa Rica (Nosara), Brazil (Florianopolis), Kenya (Diani) and South Africa (Cape Town), among others. Income thresholds vary widely, so check the linked guide and the official site.
Which nomad visas are NOT actually open yet?
The most notable is the Philippines: its Digital Nomad Visa exists in law (Executive Order 86) but is not open for applications as of 2026, so bases like Siargao and Moalboal run on the tourist route. Always confirm a visa is operational, not just announced, before you plan around it.
