The Futaleufu runs big Class IV to V with a more technical, scenic character. Both demand a reputable guide and a head for big water; neither is for nervous first-timers on the biggest sections.

When should I go?

Their seasons are opposite. The Futaleufu runs in the southern summer, roughly December to March. The Zambezi's biggest, most famous rapids come in the low-water season, roughly August to December. Plan your trip around the river you want and its window.

Are these good for beginners?
