How we chose
Turtles are predictable where there is seagrass or a cleaning station, so we selected for habitat rather than for luck, and every entry here is a place you can snorkel from shore or a short boat ride. We deliberately left out spots where encounters depend on feeding. Keep your distance and do not chase: a turtle that surfaces to breathe and finds you in the way is a turtle you have harmed.

A guaranteed turtle is not a guaranteed good trip. Wifi, currents and island logistics are what actually decide whether one of these works for you.

think twice if you are a new diver (strong currents) or need reliable wifi

Where can I reliably swim with turtles?
The Gili Islands and Moalboal are among the most reliable, with turtles grazing the reef straight off the beach. Sipadan (Semporna) is world-class for turtles in numbers, and the Perhentians, Cozumel, Roatan and Marsa Alam are all dependable warm-water spots. Individual sightings are never guaranteed, but these places see turtles most days.
How should I behave around sea turtles?
Keep a respectful distance, never touch, chase or ride them, do not block their path to the surface to breathe, and avoid flash photography. Turtles are protected almost everywhere; good buoyancy and calm behaviour keep both you and them safe.
